Known for its magnificent ancient temples, there are plenty of things to do in Siem Reap in terms of sightseeing and experiences. It is important that you take time out to explore the various interesting opportunities in this city such as the performing arts, the outdoors, and the cultural experiences.

Angkor Wat, Angkor National Park

This spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site is the most recognized symbol associated with Cambodia and Siem Reap. Covering an area of about 400 sq km, the Park contains the Temple of Angkor Wat and the Bayon Temple among many others. The five towers of the Angkor Wat temple are believed to symbolise the mythical Mountain Meru and make it a must see in Siem Reap.

Timing: 5.00 am to 6.00 pm

Wat Bo Pagoda

This is one of the oldest pagodas in Siem Reap and is known for the many paintings that adorn its walls. Strangely, the most of the paintings narrate the tales of the Hindu mythological Ramayana. A large number of Buddha statues are also found here.

Timing: Sunrise to sunset

Banteay Srei

This shrine dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva has been constructed of red sandstone and is believed to have been established in 967 A.D. Designed as three concentric rectangles, the temple also has two libraries and a sanctuary.

Timing: 5.00 am to 5.00 pm

Chong Kneas (Floating Village)

One of three floating villages in the Siem Reap region, Chong Kneas can be explored via boat. Spend a couple of hours checking out the floating schools, markets, and clinics.

Timing: The tour can take about two hours

Banteay Kdei

Built sometime between the 12th and 13th centuries, this Buddhist temple is constructed in the Bayon style of architecture. The roof is supported by free standing pillars and carvings of the Buddha can be found on most of these.

Timing: 5.30 am to 6.00 pm

The Cambodian Landmine Museum

If you are wondering what to see in Siem Reap, don’t miss this museum. Established by a former child soldier who has himself dismantled a good number of the landmines on display, this museum raises funds for landmine clearing throughout the country. It also runs a school and dormitory for children who have had their limbs amputated due to being victims of landmines.

Timing:7.30 am to 5.30 pm
